Yale School of Medicine, New Haven Connecticut

Provided on going engineering service for multiple renovation projects throughout the School of Medicine. The scope for these projects consisted of site evaluation of the current structured cabling system in the area’s, floors or buildings to be renovated. The evaluation included coordination with the Yale Telecommunications staff, the Mechanical, the Electrical and the Plumbing Engineers to include Telecommunications outlet locations and type, space requirements for the proposed cabling system or cable tray, electrical outlet requirements at the workstations and Telecommunications Rooms, lighting requirements for the TR’s and any plumbing or piping removal at the new TR location. The design included the feasibility of reusing existing cabling (both ISP and OSP), additional cabling requirements or complete re- cabling of the proposed renovation for budgetary and bidding purposes.

Norwalk Community College, CIT expansion and renovation, Norwalk Connecticut

Norwalk Community College (NCC) is an institution positioning for the future. As a part of our ongoing design work, NCC contracted our services to assess their existing Tel/Data infrastructure and develop a path for communications into the future.

 

Our project consisted of documentation of all existing Voice and Data equipment in the existing PBX room, Intermediate Distribution Frames (Network Rooms) and the existing structured cabling infrastructure. We performed a “needs analysis” and developed recommendations for the purchase of a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system to extend  the current Voice, Video and Data requirements with capabilities for future growth and expansion in size and technology.

 

A VOIP Request for Proposal was written, an evaluation was performed, and a vendor was selected to install and maintain the system.

 

The new wing houses the new Main Distribution Frame for the deployment of the VOIP system and is the new demarcation point for all circuits from the Wide Area Network.

Structured cabling drawings and specifications were written for the new wing with fiber and copper cable redundancy for all campus buildings.

Foley Hoag LLP (FH), Boston, Massachusetts

Foley Hoag LLP is a prestigious law firm located in downtown Boston. After years of residing in PO Square, FH decided to relocate to the new tower in the Seaport District of Boston, known as World Trade Center West.

 

The new location consists of approximately 6-2/3 floors or about 220,000 square feet, located on the 11th through the 17th floor of the World Trade Center West Building. Within this impressive space, John and his team designed the Tel/Data systems in the open and enclosed offices, conference rooms, computer room, main telephone equipment room, satellite Tel/data rooms, training rooms and lower level storage spaces.

 

At the time of planning the move, FH intended to move their existing PBX and all the handsets to the new facility over a weekend. The assessment of the existing system included documenting all the existing components of the Nortel SL1 Telephone system. After this assessment and discussions with FH, the team decided to design a new system and purchase a new PBX instead of moving the existing system. John and his team created the RFP for the procurement of the PBX and associated services, reviewed and ranked the proposals and recommended a vendor who best fit FH current and future voice system requirements.

 

As part of the project we also created structured cabling drawings and specifications to accommodate the present and future bandwidth and application requirements.

CVS Store Support Data Center, Woonsocket Rhode Island

Developed a five (5)-phase migration path for applications and hardware in the new Corporate Data Center. Created timetables for the move of existing systems and the controlled phase in process of new systems while moving the entire operation from the existing data center to the newly built data center.

 

We approached this project as a mission critical application and required a great deal of planning and coordination with the CVS Telecommunications Group. The coordination encompassed the hardware, software, cabling and circuit cutovers for all Data Center systems.

CVS Store Conduit Design, Woonsocket Rhode Island

Provided conduit layout drawings for new and retrofit stores requiring metal conduit for all communications cabling in Cities and States requiring conduit for structured cabling (Chicago and Nevada). This project was a coordinated effort with the electrical engineers, CVS Telecommunications Group, and CVS Architects to develop fill ratio requirements, conduit details and faceplate location and details from CVS Telecommunications cabling standards.
